Hi-Tech Floor Transforms Multi-Sport Gyms Into Multi, Multi Sport Gym By Meera Dolasia on February 7, 2013.
If your school is like most, chances are you have one gym that is used for maybe one or two sports - Most likely Volleyball and Basketball. And it's not because that is the maximum number of sports the gym can be scheduled for, but because all sports have different boundary lines and while the colors can be changed, it still gets a little confusing for athletes. Now, Germany's ASB Systembau has created an interactive floor that allow for the markings to be changed instantly, with a mere push of a button

Called Lucio, it comprises of two layers. A surface made of easily removable special glass that has undergone a series of processes and treatments to ensure that it is as springy as the current wooden floors and also layered with a colored PVB foil, coated with an extra-strong anti-skid laminate. Underneath, lies an equally cushioned framework made from metal channels that are embedded with blue and white LED's, which are arranged such that they create the specific boundary that is needed for the sport being played, at any given time. All the coach or the player has to do, is press the button with the right symbol

Priced at about $560 USD per square meter, the floor has been thoroughly vetted by researchers from Germany's Stuttgart University and meets not only the sliding characteristics required for gyms but both national and international requirements for slip resistance, shock absorption etc. etc. The best part is, that it is available right now and one pioneering school in Bavaria is already using it!

On January 11th, professional diver and excursion expert, Keller Laros and his team did what they do every night. They lead a group of tourist divers into the ocean off the Hawaiian island of Kona, to experience the stingrays up close. While that in itself was a magical experience, what happened that night, was even more unforgettable!
Kelly says the group was just settling in to view the magnificent giant Mantas when they saw a Bottlenose dolphin swimming toward them. While that in itself was not unusual, what caught the diver's attention was the mammal's unusual squeal. As the dolphin came close and almost pushed itself onto Kelly, he realized that it was in distress, fishing line was tangled around its fins.
Fortunately for the dolphin, it had picked the right humans People that cared and more importantly, knew what to do without hurting it. Kelly gently removed the fishing hook that had embedded itself inside the dolphin's mouth and snip off the tightly entangled fishing line from its pectoral fins. The dolphin seemed to really trust them and cooperated fully with Kelly the entire time. The best part about this once-in-a-lifetime event is that diver and photographer Martina Wing had her cameras rolling and captured the entire event,

The name of my article is Hi-Tech Floor Transforms Multi-Sport Gyms Into Multi, Multi Sport Gyms! It was written by Meera Dolasia. It is about a gym that can be used for multiple sports beside basketball and volleyball by changing the boundary lines by the touch of a button.
“Priced at about $560 USD per square meter, the floor has been thoroughly vetted by researchers from Germany's Stuttgart University and meets not only the sliding characteristics required for gyms but both national and international requirements for slip resistance, shock absorption etc. etc. The best part is, that it is available right now and one pioneering school in Bavaria is already using it!” This is a paragraph from the article. It talks about how much the gym cost per square meter. It says that the gym is avalible right now and a school in Bavaria is using it already!
“ASB Systembau believes that the floor will be useful for many other venues, ranging from displaying rotating floor advertisements to even, nightclubs. We are sure all you wish is that someone would install the Lucio in your school gym!” This is also a paragraph from the article. It talks about other many uses from the gym and where it can be used.
I read this article because it looked cool and interesting. I learned about a new type of gym floor that can be used and has rotating floors and light up.

I read the article “Now Available - Airbags for Pedestrians and Cyclists!” This article was once again written by Meera Dolasia. I found this article weird but still a little interesting. I think any reader would find this strange article interesting.
The article tells of how in this new Volvo car the hood pops off and reviles two air bags that would stop the pedestrian or cyclist from smashing through the windshield of the car. “In the works since 2011, the airbag covers only the lower portion of the windshield. This according to the company will provide the much needed buffer between the person's head and the pane of glass he/she would otherwise encounter.” This last sentence was from the article and gives a good description of the air bags on the new Volvo car.
The builders had been working on this for quit some time before it was finally ready for test drives. “While TNO is one of the pioneering companies to fully develop and bring to market this rather ingenious idea, they are not the first ones. That credit goes to Swedish car manufacturer, Volvo that has already introduced it in their 2012 V40 model.”
I hope you will read this article and find as interesting as I did.

'Some species of the lowly dung beetle that feed off animal droppigs first form their finds into little balls and rolls them away to a safe distance. 'However, what the scientists had never been able to figure out is how the beetle is able to navigate itself and its tasty little morsel in a straight line away from the pile of droppings where they are likely to encounter competitors.' Now, thanks to a team of Swedish researchers the mystery has been at least partially solved and the answer is causing quite a stir amongst the scientific community.
The reason they navigate so well is because they have sensors behind their eyes. The sensors sense vibration. Scientist still didn’t know how they go in a straight line though. They found out that the Beatles follow the stars. They followed better to the Milky Way and to a full sky of stars. Beatles eating feces may sound grows but it helps keep our food source clean

I read The Text Message Minnesota Researchers Are Not Looking Forward to Receiving! By Meera Dolasia on February 4, 2013. It is about moose population.

A text message will go to the researchers from the radio collar if the moose is dead. And the researcher will go and get the dead moose and see what killed it.
The moose population went down about half sense 2006 that are lifted in the wild. The moose population is estimated to go down and died in 2043.

The radio collar will send this text ‘Hey, I'm likely dead,’ and the researcher will go out and investigate it.

New interactive floor!

The article I am writing about is called “Hi-Tech Floor Transforms Multi-Sport Gyms Into Multi, Multi Sport Gyms!” this passage was written by Meera Dolasia.

Most modern gyms are used for only 2 sports, volleyball and basketball. That has all changed, thanks to Germanys ASB Systembau. What could change a gym you ask? Well let me explain, the gym floors is made up of two layers. The first layer is made of removable special glass that has been through a series of processes, that acts just like a modern wooden floor. The second layer has a series of LED lights, when you push a button some of them light up to form a basketball court, or a volleyball court.

Longest Prime Number
I am summarizing the article about the longest prime number found yet. The author is Meera Dolasia. The main idea of the article is that this is such an amazing feat that not very many people accomplish this.
The most recently discovered longest prime number is 17,425,170 digits long. If you wanted to hand write this digit (why I don’t know) and if you wrote at one digit per second not stopping for 12 hours it would you over a year. If you print it, it would take over 5,000 sheets of paper. Just to create this number took 1,000 computers, made with the software to crunch the numbers, it took 39 days to create.
Curtis Cooper, who made this latest prime number, is already looking for the next one, which is obviously going to get even larger. The people who discover these numbers, are mostly in this for the right to brag, but are rewarded $3,000.
I chose this article because it looked very interesting. I learned that this is no easy task to complete. This task is now in history, so that generations to come can learn about the past.

Mathematician Unveils The World’s Biggest Ever Prime Number Yet!
I read the article, ‘Mathematician Unveils The World's Biggest Ever Prime Number Yet - And Don't Even Think Of Memorizing This One’ by Meera Dolasia.
Curtis Cooper, a mathematician from the University of California, Los Angeles, has discovered the world’s longest prime number! It was no easy feat, it took one thousand computers equipped with special software and crunching simultaneously thirty-nine days to calculate the whole number! The number is a huge 17,425,170 digits long. If you wanted to hand write the number, at a pace of one digit per second for 12 hours nonstop, it would take more than a year to finish it. If you printed it, it would use about five thousand to six thousand sheets of paper!
The outstanding number was found by computer 22. It’s not just any number; it is a rare Mersenne number. Mersenne numbers are an elite group of numbers that have only 47 members in the number family. It is a prime number that is one less than the power of two.
Curtis is not the only one to attempt to find an extremely long number, thousands of volunteers spend a lot of time looking for new primes. Even though the discovery of it has a prize of $3,000, math enthusiasts mostly do it for bragging rights.
This was a cool article and I enjoyed reading it.

Claustrophobia in my Opinion.
I am summarizing an article about micro apartments being designed for big cities. This article was published by Meera Dolasia on January 30, 2013. Manhattan in New York City is a big draw for people who want to live there and enjoy the night life. The population in Manhattan is increasing and most household are one or two residents. This has led to a severe shortage of affordable housing given. So developers are designing micro size apartments.
(In July 2012, Mayor Bloomingberg announced a city-sponsored competition) The competition allows developers to submit designs of apartment buildings with micro-units. Each apartment has to be between 250-300 square feet of living space with a kitchen and a bathroom.
In New York, an apartment building is being built and every apartment is the same size. In my opinion, this is a good idea (for people that aren’t claustrophobic). If it was just by myself it might be ok, but if I was living with someone else, it might be too crowded. It might be big enough, but on YouTube, I’ve seen apartments and houses that are the tiniest house I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I could live in an apartment like these.

Wolf Bonding Time

By: Theresa Peirano

People bond with animals all the time. Sometimes with domestic animals like cats, dogs, etc., other times with crazy, dangerous, wild animals like sharks, wolves( see title), lions, and other weird animals. Ex-paratrooper, Werner Freund, who is 79-years old! He takes care of Siberian to Arctic, Canadian, European and even, Mongolian wolves! If you ask me that is quite a few different kinds of wolves.
The wolves in the pack act just as if he was a wolf too. They play with him and nuzzle him just like all the other wolves do to a real wolf. The wolves are pretty docile around him and aren’t as aggressive. They even act like he is the wolf pack’s head leader!
A gross thing about this is when it is time to eat he howls and they come. That isn’t the gross thing. When the pack shows up the come into the scene of Werner sinking his teeth into the meat! Not just any meat raw meat!!! EWWWWWWWW!!!
PERSONALLY I WOULD NEVER LIVE WITH THE WOLVES, BUT IF HE LIKES I AIN’T STOPPN’ HIM. (IF I WOULD BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO GET CLOSE THE WOLVES ARE AROUND TO TELL HIM NO)

A man named Chuck Patterson grew up skiing in Lake Tahoe. Chuck always thought of combining two sports skiing and surfing. In 2000, he finally could resist no more and decided to test it out with a pair of custom jumper skis. Chuck of course, could not resist - Using a jet ski to tow him to the perfect wave he gave the sport another shot and . . . Was hooked. Over the years, he has become so good that he can wave ski some of the most dangerous surf at speeds of up to 30mph! The 43-year old who even uses ski poles though they are of no use in the water, says that what makes the sports so exciting, is the unpredictability of the waves and likens it to skiing in soft snow during warm weather. But, while he can get many people to come watch and even film him wave ski, he seems to have found very few souls brave enough, to give this extreme sport even a try!

I read Now Availaboe - Air bags for pedistrians. In this article a 2009 study proved that millions of people are killedin road crashes each year. These people are people who are just walking, or riding bikes or motorcycles. So, people are coming up with solutions to keep this from happeneing. They're making an airbag that will be on the exterior , or outside, of the car. The airbag would be right below the wind shield. This airbag will reduce the number of deaths due to road crashes. TNO is one of the companies that will market this airbag supply system. Volvo, introduced their 2012 V40 model with the airbag. Maybe, more car companies will manufacture cars with this featured air bag.

The Text Message Minnesota Researchers Are Not Looking Forward To Receiving!
I am doing my article review on the Minnesota story. In this story it describes how the animal population in Minnesota has decreased greatly. Just in 2004, 4600 animal were left in the wild of the Minnesota forests. There is a 61 percentage that animals are killed by unknown. Researchers cannot find the solution to this. Six hours after an animal is killed, someone will get a text message saying “Hey Im likely dead”. Which is actually pretty sad. I am an animal lover and I cannot stand when they die. These animals will be provided with a tracking collar. This is what this passage is about.

This gym flood is comprised of two layers. A surface made of easily removable special glass that has undergone a series of processes and treatments to ensure that it is as springy as the current wooden floors and also layered with a colored PVB foil, coated with an extra-strong anti-skid laminate.

3D Printers are heading to the moon - No really.
To say that 3D printing technology has grown by leaps and bounds is an understatement. It has been used to build construction models, artificial limbs and even a faux car for the most recent James Bond thriller, Skyfall. Now, if the scientists at the European Space Agency (ESA) and designers at British architectural firm Foster and Partners are right, it may soon be heading to the Moon.
Then, there is the issue of labor - Given that humans cannot not survive in the extreme Lunar temperatures without adequate protection, means that laborers could not be sent to build this dome. The only solution therefore would be to send robots.
This, is where 3D printing comes in! The architects began by mixing simulated lunar soil with magnesium oxide - This effectively transformed it into a pulp-like material, which could be passed through the printer to create 3-D building material sheets. Since each individual layer is not strong enough, the architects printed multiple layers and then bound them with a special salt, that turned the flimsy layers into a stone like solid material. The architects who have built a small model on earth, believe that if everything goes according to their plan, using this technique, a structure big enough to house four astronauts could be built in just a week.
Also, thanks to this innovative idea, the house will be totally sustainable and the only things that will be required to be shipped to the moon will be the robots, some pressurized inflatables the same shape as the dome and of course the printer(s). Watch out Martians, here we come.
